Symptoms
On various pages within a Life Event, such as the pages for name change or addition of an emergency contact or an account for direct deposit, the following error, or a variation of it, occurs:

Update DOM Unsuccessful: Error – [Exception… “An invalid or illegal string was specified” code: “12” nsresult: “0x8053000c (SyntaxError)” location: “<unknown>”]
or
Getting a syntax error - Function 'onReadyState' Error: SyntaxError or Function 'onReadyState' Error: Failed to execute
STEPS
-----------------------
1. Choose the Marriage Life Event (Navigation: Self Service > Benefits > Life Events).
2. Proceed through Life Event as desired.
