Accessibility: Candidate Gateway: When an Applicant is Completing an Application to Apply for a Job, the Questions Associated with the Open-Ended Question Text Areas are not Announced when Tabbing into the Textarea (Doc ID 2676804.1)

Last updated on JULY 21, 2023

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise HCM Candidate Gateway - Version 9.2 to 9.2 [Release 9]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In Candidate Gateway, as an applicant is using a screen reader to complete an application to apply for a job, the questions associated with the open-ended question text areas are
not announced when tabbing into the textarea (standard navigation in forms mode, within a form).

Instead, the textarea is announced by the unhelpful label "Open Ended Answer".

This label does not clearly indicate what information should be entered in the text area.

It is expected that the question that precedes the textarea to be announced when tabbing into the field.

This is a failure of SC 2.4.6 because the label "Open Ended Answer" does not adequately describe the purpose of the textarea.

This is also a failure of SC 1.3.1 because the descriptive text label is not programmatically associated with the field in question.
