How Can an Employee's Annual Pledge for Health Savings Account (HSA) Be Reduced to Less Than the Amount Already Contributed? (Doc ID 2830319.1)

An employee has a 2021 Health Saving Account (HSA). The employee had deposited funds directly to this account which is allowed; however, when these direct contributions are combined with the payroll deductions that have already been taken for the year, the year-to-date maximum allowed contributions to the account are exceeded.

How can the the Annual Pledge be reduced to the amount that should have been deducted, stopping future deductions and refunding the excess contributions to the employee?
