EGL: Mass Journal Approvals Not Approving Journals, Caught Exception: Integration Gateway: General Connection Failed (158,10836)

Symptoms
Journal Mass Approval is not approving journals. After selecting multiple Journals to approve, the page spins for 4-5 minutes and it looks like it may have approved journals, but the journals are not approved.
STEPS
1. From the Home page, click on Approvals tile
2. Select Journals
3. Select multiple journals at one time
4. Click Approve button
5. The Mass Approve box opens > click Submit
6. After spinning for 4-5 minutes, user is taken back to the Pending Approvals page
7. A green bar above the Journals selected for approval say, "You have approved 2 transaction(s)"
8. Checking the journals, they are not approved
