Class Search Class Availability Enrollment and Wait List Totals Differ From Combined Section Totals, Resulting in Status Showing as Open When Should be Closed (Doc ID 2915688.1)

Symptoms

In Class Search, on the Class Detail page for a class set up as part of a Combined Section, The Class Availability numbers listed for the Enrollment Total and Wait List total do not always match the numbers listed under the Combined Section which reflect the actual numbers on the Class Roster. As a result, one or more seats could be listed available when the capacity already met, and the status of the course will show Open instead of Closed.

For example, two courses linked as a Combined Section are set up with a combined enrollment capacity of 29; the combined capacity has been reached with 26 enrolled in one course, and 3 in the other; these totals show accurately under the 'Combined Section' grid on the Class Detail page; however, the 'Class Availability' section of the page shows a different total and usually lower, for example an Enrollment Total of 28, leaving one available seat.

Class Search should always return accurate number and results, so that students are not presented with courses they think they can still enroll in, when the courses are actually closed.

This issue has only been reported (so far) with the Classic version of Class Search. The issue is similar to one previously documented in <Note 2393963.1>, but occurs after applying the fix that was supposed to have addressed the earlier issue.

The issue can be reproduced with the following steps:

  1. Set up two (or more) courses with combined sections, on Curriculum Management > Combined Sections > Combined Sections table.
  2. Enroll students in the courses up to the combined limit.
  3. Navigate to Curriculum Management > Schedule of Classes > Class Search.
  4. Search for one of the classes defined in step 1.
  5. Note the Enrollment and/or Wait List totals displayed on the Class Detail page in the Class Availability section versus the Combined Section grid.
