Symptoms

When attempting to run the Batch External Award Load COBOL process FAPPKEAL, it ends in error, with the following messages displayed in the log files:

FAPPKEAL Log:

The process was previously working up to a certain point in time when the problem began, possibly related to one or more system maintenance tasks performed (see next section).

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Financial Aid > Awards > External Awards > Load External Awards > Load External Awards, and run the process.
  2. Click link to Process Monitor and note when process ends in 'Error' status.
  3. Click 'Details' link for the process instance, then link for 'View Log/Trace', and review the log files in the file list for the detailed error messages.

Changes

In the case(s) reported so far, the start of the problem seemed to coincide with various system maintenance performed around the same time. For example, in one reported case, a new patchset was installed on the Exadata servers hosting the Campus database. However, it is not completely clear if the maintenance was really a contributing factor, as the exact root cause of the problem has not been determined (see next section).
