When Running FWS COD Outbound, the SFA_GEN_FWS .Stdout File Shows the Message 'Invalid value for LastName for ID' or 'Invalid value for FirstName for ID' for Some Students, and the Corresponding Name Field is not Populated in the .XML (Doc ID 2983437.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 25, 2024

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise CS Financial Aid - Version 9.2 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When running COD FWS Outbound (SFA_GEN_FWS), the .stdout file shows certain students with the message "Invalid value for LastName for ID", or in some cases the message will display FirstName instead of LastName.

The indicated students are written to the generated .xml file, but the corresponding name tag (<LastName/> or <FirstName/>) will be blank, which COD does not allow and will cause the file to reject. Below is an example of an .xml produced with the <LastName> tag missing.

The issue is found to occur specifically when the first or last name value includes a space in the middle of the name - such as "Smith Jones, Abraham" (fictitious). In other situations, the students are correctly processed.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. On Financial Aid > File Management > COD Full Participant > Federal Work Study Data, manually create or update the data for a student with a space in the middle of their last or first name.
  2. Run the FWS COD Outbound process at Financial Aid -> File Management -> COD Full Participant -> COD FWS Outbound.
  3. In Process Monitor > Details > View Log/Trace, click the .stdout and note the message for the student.
  4. If the process was run to produce the .XML (not Validate Only mode), click into the .XML to verify the corresponding name tag data is missing.

Changes

The issue occurs after applying Patch 34858743 COD: FEDERAL WORK STUDY REPORTING, which delivered the functionality.
