When Calculating the IM EFC for Aid Year 2024-2025, the Full EFM Value - as Shown on the Maintain Application Computation Summary Tab - is not Populating in the EFC Field in the Federal Column in Need Summary (Doc ID 2991104.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 25, 2024

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise CS Financial Aid - Version 9.2 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

For Aid Year 2024-2025, when calculating the IM EFC - Estimated Family Contribution using Institutional Methodology and the new IM Cloud functionality integration with College Board -  the total EFC value calculated using Estimated Federal Methodology (EFM) is not populating correctly on the student's Need Summary.

On the Maintain Application Computation Summary Tab, the values in the EFM columns for both the Parent Contribution (PC) and Student Contribution (SC) accurately show what has been calculated and returned from the College Board; the sum of the PC + SC should also be what is populated within the 'Need Summary' link in the EFC field in the federal column, but instead that field is showing something less than the expected result. The incorrect result can also be verified with a query of the data in the STDNT_AWD_PER.PRORATED_EFC and/or FED_EFC fields which correspond to the Need Summary field displayed on that page.

The exact results observed and being reported vary between different schools and even different students at each school. So far, these different variations have been reported:

These inconsistencies - including whether the specific scenario listed affects all students with that scenario or only some - may be due to the specific resulting depend on the student-specific data involved with each EFC calculation.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Financial Aid > Institutional Application Data > Maintain Application 2024-2025.
  2. Choose a student who has had or will have a IM EFC calculated where neither the PC or SC are exactly 0.
  3. If the IM EFC has not yet calculated, check the top of the page and the 'HouseHold Type' and 'HHB Indicated' fields to see if these indicate an HHB application submitted; and if so, go to the Non-Custodial Parent Data tab, re-verify there is data populated on the page, and Click the 'INAS NCP' button if necessary or desired to first calculate the Non-Custodial Parent Contribution (NCP).
  4. After completing or skipping step 3, click the 'INAS' button from any of the other tabs if the IM EFC has not yet calculated.
  5. On the Computation Summary tab after the calculation completes, note the values populated for 'Calculated Contribution' in the two 'EFM' columns.
  6. Click 'Need Summary' link and verify the EFC value populated in the Federal Column does not match the sum of the two values from step 5.

Changes

The issue occurs after applying PRP 35266241 - 2024-2025 Aid Year Setup for Institutional Methodology (IM), which first delivered the ability to calculate the IM EFC for Aid Year 2024-2025.
