On FLUID Need Summary, When Student Aid Index (SAI) is Negative, Estimated Need is Incorrectly Inflated by the Value of the SAI (Doc ID 3005089.1)

Last updated on MARCH 19, 2024

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise CS Financial Aid - Version 9.2 to 9.2 [Release 9]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When viewing the Financial Aid Summary Need Summary page in FLUID self service, a student with a negative SAI amount is having the Need inflated by that amount.

When the SAI is negative, it's expected to be treated as 0 for need summary calculation purposes, so the need should equal the Cost of Attendance (COA) in these cases. The need correctly displays in this manner on the Self Service Classic Need Summary as well as on the administrator Need Summary pages within the application.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Financial Aid > Awards > Award Processing > Assign Awards to a Student > Need Summary, for a student in Aid Year 2025 with a negative SAI.
  2. Observe the Need Summary as it displays on this page is correct - with COA = Need.
  3. Login as the student and click the Financial Aid tile on the home page. If it doesn't automatically land on the Need Summary page to start, click the page on the left side navigation.
  4. Observe the Estimated Need greater than the COA by the amount of the negative SAI.

Changes

The issue occurs after applying the fixes for the 2024-2025 ISIR Update: FAFSA Simplification
