Last updated on SEPTEMBER 13, 2024

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise PT PeopleTools - Version 8.59 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Updating the setting 'Number of Replicas' fails to update the Number of Replicas for the Deployed/Built indices.

Per PeopleBooks, it should not be necessary to UnDeploy/ReDeploy and Rebuild the Indices when the setting 'Number of Replicas' is changed.

Reference: Home (PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.59) > Products > Development Tools > Search Technology > Administering PeopleSoft Search Framework > Managing General Search Options, Number of Replicas.
Current Link: Link to PeopleBooks Administering PeopleSoft Search Framework, Managing General Search Options, Number of Replicas
Excerpt from the PeopleBooks: "Note: After the index is created, you may change the number of replicas dynamically anytime."

The issue is reproducible in the customer site with the following steps:
1- Setup Search with multiple nodes.
2- Deploy and Build indices.
3- Update the 'Number of Replicas' setting:
3.1- In Search Instance Options.
3.1.1- Navigate to PeopleTools > Search Framework > Administration > Define Search Instances. Open the active Search Instance.
3.1.2- Click on the link 'Search Options Config'.
3.1.3- Change the setting 'Number of Replicas' to anything beyond zero.
3.1.4- Save.
3.1.5- Navigate to PeopleTools > Search Framework > Administration > Deploy Search Objects.
3.1.6- Select the desired (deployed and built) Search Definitions and click the 'Update' button.

3.2- Or for a particular (Deployed and Built) Index:
3.2.1- Navigate to PeopleTools > Search Framework > Administration > Deploy Search Objects.
3.2.2- Locate the Search Definitions that is to be updated and click on the corresponding 'Index Settings' link.
3.2.3- Change the setting 'Number of Replicas' to anything beyond zero.
3.2.4- Click Ok.
3.2.5- Back in the Deploy page, select the Search Definition and click on the 'Update' button.

4- Navigate to PeopleTools > Search Framework > Administration > Define Search Instances. Open the active Search Instance.
5- Click on the link 'Elasticsearch Interact'/'OpenSearch Interact'.
6- In the dialog that opens, for 'Service Type', select 'Cluster'; for 'Cluster API', select _cat/indices?v. Click on the 'Submit' button.
7- Observe that the Index has not been updated with the new 'Number of Replicas' setting.
