Symptoms
When a common attribute is defined with a value longer than 20 characters, the value will display as blank on the page linked to the attribute, and the associated record will also show the field as blank. This behavior is consistently regardless of the page and record linked to the attribute, but a couple common examples are given in the steps below.
The common attribute values should be saving and displaying the same and correctly for any number of characters up to the allowed limit, which is 30 characters. The field will save and display correctly when the value is 20 characters or less.
The issue can be reproduced with the following steps:
- Navigate to the common attributes setup page (Set Up SACR > Common Definitions > Common Attributes Setup > Common Attribute)
- Create a new common attribute name and description. For the attribute type, pick List of Values
- Create New CAF values
- When creating new attribute values, set the attribute value to anything greater than 20 characters. The field length is 30 characters.
- Enter a formal description. This field length is 100 characters.
- Tie that attribute to record ADM_APPL_DATA
- Go to application staging (Student Admissions > Application Transaction Mgmt > Application Transaction) and pull up any non-posted staging application transaction.
- On the Application Data tab, under the Application data section, click on Additional Fields
- Click on the LOV that you created that is longer than 20 characters that you created in the attribute values and click OK.
- Click Save on the application data page.
- Go back to the Additional Fields page and note the field from step 9 shows blank.
- Query the associated record SAD_APL_CAF_STG and note the SCC_CAF_ATTR_VAL shows blank instead of the defined value.
The issue is also seen with Maintain Applications and can be reproduced with the following steps:
- Navigate to Maintain Applications page (Main Menu > Student Admissions > Application Maintenance > Maintain Applications and retrieve a student.
- Click on the Application Data tab and click on ‘Additional Fields’
- On the LOV CAF field, select the field that has the attribute value set to greater than 20 characters and click save.
- Click Save on the application data page.
- Go back to the additional fields page and query SAD_APPL_CAF and note the value is blank in both cases.
