E-CI: Java client can't connect to application server behind a firewall (Doc ID 616605.1)

When attempting to connect using a Java based CI client, the following error message occurs

Error: Jolt Session Pool cannot provide a connection to the App Server

and/or

bea.jolt.ServiceException: TPENOENT - no entry found
Jolt cannot find the service. Make sure the application server advertising this service is booted. Error Code:6
Application Server last connected //****.***.****.***.12345
bea.jolt.ServiceException: TPENOENT - no entry found
at bea.jolt.JoltRemoteService.decodeCALL(JoltRemoteService.java:460)

SEVERE: Jolt Session Pool cannot provide a connection to the appsever.  This appears to be because there is no available application server domain.
