Symptoms

We would like to see TL Security expanded to include options that are available in manager self service.  Dynamic and Static groups as well as department security limits us in how we might approach security in Time and Labor.  Would like to see this expanded in the future.

We understand that we can build Time and Labor groups to mimic the functionality that is delivered elsewhere in manager self-service; however, this is very cumbersome.  For example, if we want to base our security on "reports to position", we would have to build a separate dynamic group for every position that has employees reporting to it.

This would require several hundred dynamic groups to begin with.  Then we would have to give each manager a separate row security permission list so that we could attach the appropriate dynamic group to it.
Whenever the manager's position changed, we would have to either change his/her row security permission list or else change the dynamic group attached to his/her row security permission list.  Whenever a new management position was added, we would have to add another dynamic group.  This is very maintenance-intensive.

In the other Manager Self Service components, if you were using "reports to position" as in our example above, all you have to do is grant the manager access to the component and he/she will automatically see the employees that report to his/her position.  If the manager's position changes, his/her access to employees in MSS automatically changes with no further maintenance.

We are requesting this enhancement to allow manager self-service in Time and Labor to have the same relatively maintenance-free Direct Reports security access options that are already available for the other manager self service components.  We want Time and Labor to have the same options available that you will see if you navigate to Set Up HRMS,
Common Definitions, Direct Reports for Managers, Direct Reports Setup.
When you go to this page, you can define an Access Type for each Manager
Self Service component that is allowed to be one of the following:
By Department Manager ID (from department table)
By Department Security Tree
By Group ID
By Reports To Position (from Job data)
By Supervisor ID (from Job data)
By Partial Position Mgmt Dept Mgr ID (searches for reports to position
first, then department manager ID)
By Partial Position Mgmt Supervisor (searches for reports to position
first, then supervisor ID)
As you can see, Time and Labor only has two of these options:
Department Security Tree and Group ID.  We want Time and Labor to have all of these options for components such as the Timesheet and Manage Schedules, but we still want to have the capability of running batch processes such as Time Administration by Dynamic Groups.
