After 20.3 Monthly Update Installation When Attempting To Access The Siebel Application HTTP 500 Error Is Observed (Doc ID 2681249.1)

Symptoms

Siebel 20.4 has been applied to a working Siebel 20.1 environment. After that HTTP 500 error is received when users try to access the Siebel application.

HTTP Status 500 - Internal Server Error

In the localhost.[timestamp].log file located under the AI_HOME/applicationcontainer/log directory the following is found:

09-Jun-2020 13:55:36.742 SEVERE [https-openssl-nio-9011-exec-2] org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapperValve.invoke Servlet.service() for servlet [siebel] in context with path [/siebel] threw exception
 java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -1
    at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1914)
    at com.siebel.swsm.util.StringUtil.getSessionInfo(StringUtil.java:89)
    at com.siebel.swsm.sessmgr.UIConnectionModule.writeSessionInfoLogs(UIConnectionModule.java:974)
    at com.siebel.swsm.sessmgr.UIConnectionModule.invokeService(UIConnectionModule.java:553)
    at com.siebel.swsm.sessmgr.UIConnectionModule.processLoginModule(UIConnectionModule.java:199)
    at com.siebel.swsm.handlers.UIHandler.processRequest(UIHandler.java:69)
    at com.siebel.swsm.siebelendpoints.SWSMServlet.doGet(SWSMServlet.java:39)


The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Install Siebel 20.4 Monthly Update on the existing Siebel 20.1 installation
2. Restart the Siebel environment
3. Go to the Siebel Application URL
4. The above mentioned HTTP 500 error is returned
