Catalog Access May be Slower in OAS 5.5+ compare to OBIEE 12.x and Earlier when Associating a Segment in Siebel (Doc ID 2840716.1)

Symptoms

In the Siebel Marketing application, a Segment can be asscoiated to a Campaign. However, it was noticed that it takes much longer to return the Catalog in OAS 5.5 compared to OBIEE 12.x and earlier versions. Sometimes it takes as long as 20 times slower, but depends on the Catalog size.

In some cases, the Siebel application returns the following timeout error if the time it take exceeds 5 minutes:

Operation 'getSubItems' is expecting a response but no response was received SBL-EAI-04311

 

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps in the Siebel application when integrated with OAS:

1. Navigate to the Campaign screen and create a new campaign or use an existing one.

2. Navigate to the view: Campaign > Design > Segments/Lists

3. Click the 'Add Segments' button.

4. Click on the Plus (+) icon in the 'Previously Used Segments' pop-up applet.

5. Click on the Pick Icon of field 'Folder Location'.

6. Finally, click on the 'shared' folder name from the Catalog.

 

This will send a web service call to OBIEE to retrieve the Catalog folder restructure. The time for OAS 5.5 to respond takes significantly longer.

Due to this issue, it taks awhile for users to associate a new Segment to a campaign.

Changes

 OBIEE was upgraded from 12.x (or earlier) to OAS 5.5 or later.
