Siebel Replication: On Regional Node Server - the Srvrinit Fails with 'Error Opening File (...)\siebsrvr\Docking\inbox\initmark.dat For Write' (Doc ID 2899315.1)

Last updated on MARCH 15, 2024

Applies to:

Siebel Replication Manager - Version 8.1.1.14 [IP2014] and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

On a Production environment using Siebel Replication - after re-extracting the Regional Node (RN) Database, srvrinit starts but fails immediately with the errors below:
There is no file like InitMaker.dat created in the Regional Node's Docking\inbox folder.

That would prevent the end-users to connect and use that Regional Node Server until its database is initialized.
As there are some legal requirements in place to switch periodically Production users to an alternate (DR) site/node, the failure to comply may imply some risk of penalties.

The steps to replicate the issue on that specific environment were:

1. On the HQ Server, run the extraction of the RN database (using PDbXtract);
2. Check and ensure that completes with no errors;
3. On the RN server, start the srvrinit.exe program - either passing all required parameters in UI (or as switches in command line)
4. See that error returned almost instantly.
