Drag And Drop Email From Outlook In Attachment View Truncates The Attachment Name To 128 Characters (Doc ID 2951143.1)

Last updated on JUNE 21, 2023

Applies to:

Siebel CRM - Version 19.8 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When users drag and drop emails from Outlook into the Siebel attachment view, although max length of name field for attachment is 200 character, the name gets truncated to 128 characters.

If the users have to attach more than 2 emails with the similar name where the 1st 128 characters are the same, the user encounters the following error:

An Attachment with this name already exists. Would you like to replace it?

The file name is created properly if we drag and drop from windows folder or use the new file option.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

1. Send 2 emails to your email box with the following subjects (the last 10 characters are different):

    mail1: aaaaaaaaa1aaaaaaaaa2aaaaaaaaa3aaaaaaaaa4aaaaaaaaa5aaaaaaaaa6aaaaaaaaa7aaaaaaaaa8aaaaaaaaa9aaaaaaaaa0aaaaaaaaa1aaaaaaaaa2aaaaaaaaa3aaaaaaaaa4aaaaaaaaa5aaaaaaaaa6aaaaaaaaa7aaaaaaaaa8aaaaaaaaa9aaaaaaaaa0
    mail2: aaaaaaaaa1aaaaaaaaa2aaaaaaaaa3aaaaaaaaa4aaaaaaaaa5aaaaaaaaa6aaaaaaaaa7aaaaaaaaa8aaaaaaaaa9aaaaaaaaa0aaaaaaaaa1aaaaaaaaa2aaaaaaaaa3aaaaaaaaa4aaaaaaaaa5aaaaaaaaa6aaaaaaaaa7aaaaaaaaa8aaaaaaaaa9bbbbbbbbb0

2. In Siebel application, go to any attachment view (for example, go to 'Site Map'->'Accounts'->'Accounts List'->'Attachments' view).

3. Drag and drop the mail1 to the attachment view. It will create an attachment record successfully.

4. Drag  and drop the mail2 to the attachment view. Even though the subject is different, the error is displayed.
