The Subject Line of an Email Contains an Extra Space Character When the Email Treatment Includes Special Characters (Doc ID 2982299.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 13, 2023

Applies to:

Siebel Marketing - Version 22.4 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

An extra space character was observed in the subject line of emails that were generated during the Marketing Email Campaign process.

The issue appears to occur when there are special characters in the subject line of the Email Offer. For instance:

Example 1

Email Offer:
¡Example: Subject of the email contains special characters exclaimation (precio reg. $249)!

Email received by recipient:
¡Example: Subject of the email contains special characters exclaimation (precio reg. $249)!

Example 2

Email Offer:
¿Another example where the subject has a special character? Contains special character question mark.

Email received by recipient:
¿Another example where the subject has a special character? Contains special character question mark.

It is not expected to have the extra space character inserted into the subject line.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

1. Create an Offer and Email Treatment. In the Subject line of the Email Treatment, include a special character such as the example above.

2. Create a Campaign with all required data, including associate the Offer/Email Treatment that was created.

3. Load/Launch the Campaign.

4. Review the email that was delivered to the recipient, and the extra space character is observed.

Special characters such as the examples above are used in languages such as Spanish, so would cause formatting issues in the subject line of those emails.
