Goal
To obtain alternate super-block information on a fileystem created with newfs you would generally run newfs with the -N flag. The procedure is a little different for filesystems created with mkfs.
Using 'newfs -N' will report back incorrect alternate super-blocks on a filesystem created with mkfs. An example of where you might run into this is with Veritas Volume Manager which uses mkfs by default to create a filesystem. So, if you are in a situation where you need to obtain alternate super blocks on a filesystem created with mkfs here is the procedure you will need to follow.
