Labeling concept for Solaris 10 Operating System for x86 platforms (Doc ID 1008324.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 18, 2023

Applies to:

Solaris Operating System - Version 10 3/05 and later
All Platforms

Goal

When using the 'type -> Auto configure' option in format utility for hosts running Solaris 10 Operating System for x86 Platforms, labeling the drive could fail with the message:

      Warning: no backup labels

This could lead also to have a much smaller than the original disk size seen by Solaris Operating System (OS), especially when adding the disk to a diskset.

This issue had been viewed with a Sun StorEdge 3510 FC Array with 850GB and above LUN sizes, and also with Sun StorEdge 6130/6140 Array with 150GB and above LUN sizes.

For example, a 750GB LUN on the Sun StorEdge 6130 Array presented to the Solaris 10 Operating System for x86 Platforms that had been 'Auto configured', when added to a meta set could be seen as only 70GB LUN in size.
