Solaris[TM] 8/9: When Is Page Retirement Enabled? (Doc ID 1009256.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 15, 2019

Applies to:

Solaris Operating System - Version 8.0 to 9 9/05 HW U9 [Release 8.0 to 9.0]
All Platforms

Goal

Solaris[TM] 8 and 9 check for multiple correctable memory errors occurring
on the same dimm and bit (that is, the same AFAR).

When they find that a dimm has a weak bit, then the memory page associated with that cache line is
retired. The memory page is no longer available on the freelist for use.
This prevents a deteriorating dimm from producing multiple bits in error,
which would result in an Uncorrectable Error (UE) panic.
