Symptoms

For versions of Solaris[TM] prior to 10 the calculation of the cpu usage statistics as displayed in the user/system/idle columns of vmstat are calculated in a very simplistic manner.

This makes it possible for certain workloads to make vmstat produce highly inaccurate outputs for these columns.
