Purpose

Description
When attempting to jumpstart or netboot a system, the message Timeout waiting for ARP/RARP packet is observed by the user. There could be another errors during the booting net or jumpstart process as a panic and this document can help to isolate the root cause.


This is most often observed when the user types this commands at OBP level trying to boot / install the system from the network.

ok>boot net - install
ok>boot net -s 
ok>boot net 
 
Symptoms:
  1. boot fails

  2. jumpstart fails

  3. boot net fails

  4. install fails

  5. network boot fails

  6. Timeout waiting for ARP/RARP packet

  7. Cannot net boot system
