SAM-QFS: How To Enable Notification if VSNs Are Requested But No Longer Available in the Library (Doc ID 1018241.1)

Goal

This document would apply to a site that are using a standalone drive or if they store required cartridges in a vault or some other location outside the library. 

As it becomes necessary to remove tapes from a library to insert new ones, it is possible that a file may be requested for staging, in which the only copy available is no longer in the library.  The Oracle HSM software can send email to a specified address, when it needs an operator to load a non-resident cartridge.

This document describes the necessary pieces needed to notify the administrator when this occurs.

This document will supplement the information available in Chapter 5 of the Oracle HSM Maintenance and Administration Guide, as well as the load_notify.sh(1M) man page.
