Purpose
This document is intended to provide a basic overview on how to troubleshoot events for volume not on preferred path.
Please validate that each troubleshooting step below is true for your environment. Each step will provide instructions via a link to a document, for validating the step and taking corrective action as necessary. The steps are ordered in the most appropriate sequence to isolate the issue and identify the proper resolution. Please do not skip a step.
Symptoms:
- SANtricity or Common Array Manager (CAM) report a major fault of One or More Volumes not on their Preferred Path (xx.66.1010).
- The Service Action Required (SAR) LED on the array is ON.
If the multipathing relationship between the server and array is mis-configured, you will generate volume not on preferred path alarms. Make sure the host type selected on the array matches the failover software on the server. See <Document 1003750.1> How to choose an Initiator Host Type for Sun Storage 6000 and Sun StorageTek 2500 Arrays
