Oracle HSM (SAM-QFS): tplabel Fails or auditslot Marks Tape in Error "E" or Recycler Fails to Label Tape (Doc ID 1254859.1)

Last updated on JUNE 20, 2018

Applies to:

Oracle Hierarchical Storage Manager (HSM) and StorageTek QFS Software - Version 5.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Tape reported in an error "E" state.
You have already tried to correct the issue by setting the "E" flag to off and then run an auditslot on it.
Or as soon as SAM-FS attempts to use the media the error "E" state returns.

# samcmd v | grep 000010
   9     2010/10/26 13:24   26   0%  AilEo-b-----  sg 000010  MEDIA ERROR
# chmed -E sg.000010
   9:0 sg 000010                   Ail-o-b-----   19.0G   19.0G  256k 1286989289 300 10  0 //
# auditslot 300:9

Re-check samcmd v output and the media has gone back to an error "E" state.

This can happen on a new piece of media as well.

When running the sam-recycler you run into the following error.

# sam-recycler
tplabel: media VSN at slot 9 not same as old VSN 000010
Shell command /etc/opt/SUNWsamfs/scripts/ tp 000010 9 300 sg L180 0 failed: Error 0
