Purpose
Multiple issues can lead to format and other disk management tools to appear to hang due to disk in-use checking.
The goal of this document is to assist you in determining where the issue lies and some methods to resolve the issue.
Note. There is a known issue with Solaris 11.3 , described on this BUG:
Bug 23329230 - Backport 23575819 to 11.3-SRU - Running format against large amount of LUNs 800+
format may run very slow when there is a large amount of disks,
the workaround is to use NOINUSE_CHECK=1 ,
but this Bug is fixed in Oracle Solaris 11.3.13.4.0 (or greater)
