How To Investigate Why Commands are Slow using Truss and DTrace (Doc ID 1416078.1)

Goal

GUDS is a script used by support to identify system wide performance issues. See Doc ID 1285485.1 for more information about GUDS.  It is often difficult for GUDS to capture the necessary data when the issue is observed if it does not affect the entire system performance or lasts very short period.

This document explains how to investigate performance issues that are categorized as "command  X is running slow".  For example, "ls(1) takes 5 seconds though it normally completes within 1 second".
