Symptoms
Each Exalogic/Exadata machine (eighth/quarter/half/full) rack has 2 Power Distribution Units (PDU) supplies in each component (InfiniBand Switch/Gateway, Compute Node and Storage head) actively balance power - if one fails, or is connected to a PDU that fails, the other takes over (2N redundancy, continuous availability). Exalogic Power Distribution Units in each Exalogic rack configuration is redundant. For complete redundancy, each PDU should be wired to a different AC source.
One of the Power Distribution Units (PDU) seems to be non-responsive on Exalogic Rack Machine. The firmware version of Exalogic machine PDU is 1.0.4. Following symptoms were observers during the issue.
- Power Distribution Units LCD panel was dead (i.e. blank)
- Power Distribution Units HTTP interface become non-responsive for a long period of time.
- Power Distribution Units interface still responds to PING packets even though the HTTP interface was slow/non-responding.
The issue was not affecting power supply to Exalogic Rack Machines, but merely affecting the ability to monitor current draw through the PDU.
