Solaris Volume Manager (SVM) server panics continuously with 'vfs_mountroot: cannot remount root' due to missing replica/metadb information (Doc ID 1500501.1)

Symptoms

The root disks of the server are mirrored with Solaris Volume Manager software.
After the reboot the server can not boot  and panics continuously with

 

Changes

"metadb -d" commands were done before the reboot  to delete the latest replicas (metadb) on the disks

# metadb -i
==> nothing is returned

Another potential change causing such a problem is, that the server has been newly encapsulated in SVM,
but the default boot-device does not match the device that has been encapsulated.
