Oracle Exalytics Cannot Ping Exadata Database Via Infiniband After Patching Both Environments (Doc ID 1508292.1)

Last updated on APRIL 02, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Exalytics Software - Version 1.0.0.0.0 to 2.0.0.0.0 [Release 1.0 to 2.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After installing Exalytics Patch Set 1 (PS1) patch, connections to the Exadata database via infiniband are not working. Connections are timing out.
For example, while on the Exalytics test box and when trying to ping the Exadata database using the scan listener address it times out.
If ping is attempted on any of the listener addresses above 140, it times out.

If the TimesTen Instant Client on the same Exalytics host is used, it is possible to ping and to connect to the Exadata database using the infiniband connection.
However, if the TT Instant Client and the scan listener address is used, it fails.

If using normal tcp/ip and scan listener address from any server, (other than Exalytics), client ping and connect to the Exadata database works.

Changes

This problem occurred after applying Exadata Patches 14212264 and 14212264 which updated the Linux kernel to version 2.6.32 (Oracle/Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6).
