zpool import -f with missing devices can lead to panic

Customer had a zpool which had a missing device. He could not attach the missing device on an exported zpool so did a zpool import -f . The host took a panic and core dump.
The "core" issue here is zpool import "-f" can be internally turned by ZFS into "uberblock rollback" (similar to zpool import -F and/or -FX)
