SL8500 - How To Remove Tapes In The Drop-Off Cells (Doc ID 1926556.1)

Last updated on JULY 25, 2022

Applies to:

Sun StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

When a robot attempts to re-initialize and it finds a tape cartridge in its hand, it must place the 'found' cartridge in a drop-off cell in the library to complete re-initialization. On older versions of SL3000 & SL8500 firmware, the tape placed in the drop-off cells are not always immediately placed into the library.
When a robot attempts to re-initialize with a tape cartridge in hand and the drop-off cell is already full, then the robot fails initialization. The tape cartridge must be removed from the library and re-entered through the CAP by a Oracle Field Service Engineer.

Goal

Remove tape cartridge from drop-off cell, allow robot to re-initialize & re-enter tape from the CAP (Cartridge Access Port).
