Oracle HSM (SAM-QFS): Using IPS to Upgrade an Existing SAM-QFS Installation, Previously Installed With IPS (Doc ID 1951924.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 20, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Hierarchical Storage Manager (HSM) and StorageTek QFS Software - Version 5.4 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Beginning with SAM-QFS 5.4, we offer two ways to install and upgrade SAM-QFS packages :

To install the sam-qfs packages via the IPS system from scratch, one needs to use the 'pkg install' command, as explained in the sam-qfs installation and configuration guide.
To remove the package, one can revert to the 'pkg uninstall' command.

Note: When using 'pkg uninstall; pkg install' on an existing HSM configuration, there are several files and directories, including the library catalogs, that will get moved to a temporary directory. This allows for a fresh install, starting up from scratch.  Reference knowledge document 1952342.1 regarding this.

To upgrade a previous 5.4 IPS install, preserving all the existing SAM-QFS configuration files and directories, use the 'pkg update' command, as outlined in the Solution section below.
