Packet Rate / Sample Estimation Strategies in Session Monitor (Doc ID 2055107.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 21, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Communications Session Monitor - Version 3.3.x and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Purpose

The packet rate estimation in Oracle Communications Session Monitor (OCSM) is very important for VQ calculations. If OCSM estimates the packet rate wrong, it might report bad MOS values even for calls that are actually good. See below on how to influence the packet rate estimation strategy to fit customer networks.

This article is obsolete! It applies only to versions lower than 3.3.93.0.0. See this following article for versions starting with 3.3.93.0.0: <Document 2202259.1>

Starting with version 3.3.93.0.0, improvements have been done to the estimation strategy to support silence suppression and variable packet intervals. For this reason, the information described in this article is obsolete.
