HSM: Rolling Upgrade From 5.4 to 6.1 Fails (Doc ID 2179214.1)

Symptoms

With all the clients and servers running 5.4.X, the customer attempted to do a rolling upgrade to the official 6.1 release (build id 6.1.18).  After installing HSM 6.1.18 on one of their clients, the customer tried to mount their samfs type file system but received the following error:
