Symptoms
The Name Service in a system may have become manually configured as shown in the example here below:
Then after rebooting the system, the file /etc/resolv.conf may have become removed again, and the string "dns" may have become removed from the lines for "hosts:" and "ipnodes:" in /etc/nsswitch.conf.
