Error Starting Guest VM in VirtualBox, "VMDK: Inconsistency Between Grain Table And Backup Grain Table." (Doc ID 2523462.1)

Symptoms

This behavior was observed in a known-functioning Guest Virtual Machine (VM) that was running at the time the VirtualBox host exhausted available filesystem resources.  VirtualBox detected this state and attempted to preserve the VM by suspending operations, but subsequent attempts to restart the Guest after resolving the system resource issues result in the following message:

Failed to open a a session for the virtual machine Example01.

Details:

While in this state, the Guest VM cannot be successfully started.
