Why isn't the old GI home removed automatically after an upgrade?
Reason: Users can install agents or other products beyond the vanilla ODA installation which are added to the Grid Home.
Upgrades may not be able to identify changes introduced beyond the expected default ODA configuration.
As a result, ODA best practices requires manual inspection of the older Grid Home after an upgrade to confirm if any product dependencies may still exist.
The vast majority of ODA installations will have no need for the older GI Home and can be removed as agents and similar dependencies are usually migrated to the new GI Home.
However, it is the responsibility of the user to determine if the older Grid Home can be removed without impact due to any introduced and existing dependencies.
