How to move the UUI to another node with Multi-Node VLE (Doc ID 2634839.1)

Last updated on MARCH 09, 2020

Applies to:

Sun StorageTek Enterprise Library Software (ELS) - Version 7.0 to 7.3 [Release 7.0]
IBM z/OS on System z

Goal

Dynamically reassign the currently assigned UUI VLE node to another VLE node within the same Storage Manager

Background.

UUI IP Address(es) and server names are assigned to the VLE Storage Manager within the SMC SCMDS data set.
The UUI is also configured at the VLE harware, by plumbing the VLE port and designating the IP port as a UUI interface.

SMC manages all communication between VTCS and VLE, so SMC must know how to connect to the VLE server. You do so by adding an SMC STORMNGR statement for each VLE system plus one or more SMC SERVER statements that define the TCP/IP control paths for the VLE.

Here is one example of SMC parameters for a VLE

TAPEPLEX NAME(TMVSA)LOCSUB(SLS0)
SERVER NAME(ALTSERV) TAPEPLEX(TMVSA) +
HOSTNAME(MVSX) PORT(8888)
STORMNGR NAME(STRMN001)
SERVER NAME(VLE1)+
STORMNGR(STRMN001)IP(ip_address_of_UUI_port)PORT(60000)

When there are multiple VLE nodes assigned to a STORMNGR, it is possible to code redundant VLE Node(s) (SERVER NAME).

When there are multiple SERVER NAMEs coded to a STORMNGR it is possible to manually assign the "active" UUI port from the default port.
