Last updated on JANUARY 26, 2021

Applies to:

Oracle Hierarchical Storage Manager (HSM) and StorageTek QFS Software - Version 6.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After upgrading from Solaris 11.3 to Solaris 11.4 SRU 11 and HSM 6.1.52, customer was no longer able to label or append to WORM media.

They saw "Error: read label 5 I/O error", when initially mounting the volume.

This issue was reproduced in-house using a SPARC-T5-2 server, running Solaris 11.4.16.4.0, with an LTO6 drive (ULTRIUM-HH6, rev KAJ1).  The symptoms below were seen when attempting to append to WORM volume 'FW6031'.

The /var/opt/SUNWsamfs/trace/sam-archiverd shows the following:

When going back to Solaris 11.3.35.6.0, using the same tape drive, that same WORM volume can be appended to and the issue is not seen.
