Applies to:
Oracle Hierarchical Storage Manager (HSM) and StorageTek QFS Software - Version 6.1 and laterInformation in this document applies to any platform.
Goal
To assist with preparing storage to be used for HSM filesystems.
This document assists with using EFI labels and partitioning the storage for best performance.
Storage slices/luns used as components of an HSM file system must be labeled prior to a new file system being made.
In the past SMI (VTOC) labels were used but for the past decade EFI label are the recommended label type to use, for a number of reasons. The main ones being EFI's support for luns larger than 2TB, Linux clients inability to recognize SMI labels and EFI being more of an industry standard.
