Symptoms
ZFS Storage Appliance (ZFSSA) version 8.7.0 and higher has an issue with NDMP backups to NetBackup where it is not reporting the correct file sizes on files > 2GB.
Using NDMP to backup to NetBackup. Everything backs up and restores without any problems. The issue is that when you verify what was backed up in NetBackup, the individual file sizes are not correct if the size of the file is over 2GB.
For instance, these two 33GB files are backed up to NetBackup using NDMP:
If you backup 10TB of data with hundreds of files, NetBackup will report that it backed up 10TB. But, when you run a verification in NetBackup it may say there is only 7 TB.
This is only a problem with Netbackup Verification. The files will restore properly with the correct sizes.
NetBackup version where this problem was reported was 8.1.2, but it could occur on other versions.
Changes
Run an NDMP backup to NetBackup with files larger than 2GB
