Slow Asynchronous IO (AIO) Performance on vHBA (Doc ID 2734365.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 05, 2022

Applies to:

Solaris Operating System - Version 11.4 to 11.4 [Release 11.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The customer migrated their SQL database application from AIX to Solaris vHBA LDOM.

They complained that Solarios IO performance was slower compared to AIX.

They only used dd to compare the IO performance.

NOTE:
dd is not an ideal tool to do IO performance analysis because it is only single-threaded.
Vdbench or similar tool is recommended.

The tests below compared the IO performance between AIX and Solaris vHBA LUN.
A second test was done on a Solaris vdisk LUN.

AIX

Changes

The vHBA LDOM  and service domains were  running on: Kernel version: Solaris 5.11 11.4.22.69.4
