Goal

Customer  was  having a question on the working of SBC with codec modification. As per customer SBC was not working as per RFC and they explained as below.

During the call the codec exchange occurs classically INVITE - SDP offer, 183 - SDP answer. In PRACK the a-side sends a new SDP offer with fewer codecs, there is one extra codec (G729) in the response. This extra codec is deleted/not forwarded to the core side by the SBC.

Question :Explain explain why the codec deletion occurs please?. According to RFC 3264, there may be an extra codec in the response "For streams marked as sendrecv in the response, the "m=" line MUST contain at least one codec the responder is willing to both send and receive, from amongst those listed in the offer. The stream MAY indicate additional media formats, not listed in the corresponding stream in the offer, that the answerer is willing to send or receive (of course, it will not be able to send them at this time, since it was not listed in the offer).
