Symptoms

Oracle Virtual Box will prevent the creation of a virtual machine with a message about "failed to open the disk image file' and 'cannot register the hard disk' and 'NS_ERROR_INVALID_ARG' and 'with UUID <UUID> already exists' and 'VBOX_E_OBJECT_NOT_FOUND'.
