New ELS 7.3 Trace options using a Data Space (Doc ID 2881890.1)

Last updated on JUNE 10, 2024

Applies to:

Sun StorageTek Enterprise Library Software (ELS) - Version 7.3 to 7.3 [Release 7.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Purpose

This article explains the optional feature provided by PTF L1H18WD, which expands the capability of the HSC TRACE parameter.

Scope

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: .
In most cases a trace is required to resolve a problem in the ELS software. This requires that the problem be repeated while tracing ELS components. A limited amount of ELS software events are stored in an internal trace table consisting of 2048 entries. While the internal trace table is useful if the problem causes an abend and an SVC dump, the table is limited in size. If the problem does not cause an SVC dump to be taken then GTF must be used to capture the traced events, which can be CPU intensive. Also, in some cases the use of GTF has masked the problem by slowing the process down.
