SGD: Gnome Desktop Application (gnome-session) Results in Black Screen (Doc ID 2882859.1)

Last updated on JULY 08, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Secure Global Desktop - Version 5.6 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Customer reports that when trying to launch a gnome desktop on their application server he gets a window that is entirely black, with the exception of the top bar that has the name of the desktop. He can do nothing on the desktop. He can right click on the top bar (which is white) and a menu comes up with Restore, Move, Size, Minimize, Maximize, Close, No Scaling, Fast Scaling, Smooth Scaling and Edit on it. The top right of the bar, at the top of the black screen, has the line (that minimizes the window) the window or box that makes the window full screen and the X that can be used to end the application session. The pointer only shows up in the top menu bar.

Their debug logs showed that their session was looking for /usr/local/share/gnome-session/sessions/gnome-classic.session and could not find it.

Changes

The customer has two servers they upgraded from 11.4 SRU 33 to 11.4 SRU 37 and now cannot display a gnome desktop using SGD.  He still has application servers running 11.4 SRU33 that they have no issue remotely displaying a gnome desktop using SGD.
