Symptoms

When about to perform an OS upgrade to versions OS8.8.62 through OS8.8.64 and if  Western Digital 14TB disks drives are in use the disk firmware will be upgraded, the following symptoms will be observed.

Manufacturer Model Firmware
Western Digital W7214A520ORA014T A2W0
Western Digital W7214A524ORA014T C2W0

When the firmware on a disk is being upgraded, that specific disk will briefly be taken offline in order for the firmware update to take place. Once the firmware update has completed for that specific disk, it will

then be brought back online, and the process will repeat for the next disk being upgraded.  The aforementioned disk models may potentially encounter difficulty in offlining the disk which may in-turn result in

one or more of the following symptoms:

This issue is most prevalent amongst 14TB disks during an OS upgrade. However, in some instances this issue may also happen outside of a system upgrade with versions at least as far back as AK 8.8.57 on other drive models.  If the issue is encountered, the affected ZFS Appliance node will need to be rebooted.  A service request should be opened so that Oracle Support can review the problem and provide the workflow as needed.
