Symptoms

The appliance kit daemon (akd) can grow very large and can run out of memory while disk firmware is upgraded if there are many disks to be upgraded. This may cause the Browser User Interface (BUI) and CLI to be slow or to hang completely and may cause disk firmware updates to fail to make progress. Log files (only found in bundles) may show messages about out of memory or resource unavailable. The large akd memory usage will appear in the analytics dataset "dynamic memory usage for application 'mgmt'".  This document addresses the issue found while disk firmware was being upgraded shortly after the appliance software was upgraded.

Please note: The above is a summary of the symptoms and actual symptoms can vary. Matching any symptoms here does not confirm that you are encountering this exact issue. For additional questions regarding this issue, please contact Oracle Support.

Changes

Issue Found In:

OS8.8.62, ak-2013.06.05.8.67

This issue could happen immediately after the ZFS appliance has been upgraded and there are disk drives that require a firmware update. The issue is more likely to happen if there are over 400 disks that need a firmware update.
